Senator Penny Wong and Sophie Allouache wed in Adelaide Hills over weekend

Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Sophie Allouache have tied the knot after nearly two decades together.

Senator Penny Wong married her long-time partner on Saturday in the Adelaide Hills at the Bird in Hand winery.

Wong wore a fire-engine red suit to the wedding, a traditional symbol of good luck, happiness and new beginnings.

The couple have been together for nearly 20 years and have two children.

Wong is the first openly gay woman to serve as Australia's foreign minister.
